Willie Morgan, Jr.

Willie Morgan, Jr. passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 91.  He was born on Friday, December 6, 1929 in Independence, Louisiana to the late Viola Reid Morgan and the late Willie Morgan, Sr.  He was a resident of Independence, Louisiana.

Willie was a member of the Independence Lions Club, as well as the Independence Chapter of the American Legion. He was a Free Mason and a part of the Yorks Rites, as well as a Shriner. Willie was also a member of the Independence Methodist Church, of which he was a founding member. He was also one of the first members of the Italian Festival.

Willie is survived by his daughter, Betty Gassen; grandchildren, Charles J. Gassen, Jr. (Rachel), Michelle R. Gassen, and George Andy Cox; great-grandchildren, Jenna Beth Gassen, Austin James Morgan Gassen, Amanda Cox and Stephanie Jo Lassabe (David); great-great-grandchildren, Seth Lassabe and Alex Lassabe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Knapps Morgan; mother, Viola Reid Morgan; father, Willie Morgan, Sr.; grandchildren, Steve J. Cox, Jerry L. Cox, and David Cox; great-great-granddaughter, Trinity Cox.; siblings, Rudolph Morgan, Johnny Morgan, Jimmie Morgan, Ann Hoyt, Henrietta Davis (George), and Isabella Mars (Pierre); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, 2000 N. Morrison Boulevard, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Friday, August 20, 2021, beginning at 9:00 AM, until the funeral service begins at 2:00 PM.  

Interment will follow in Colonial Cemetery, Independence, Louisiana.
