Frank Wes Schneider III passed away on December 22, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on September 22, 1948, Frank lived a life defined by dedication, mentorship, and a deep love for the game of basketball.
Frank was a proud graduate of Block High School in Jonesville, Louisiana. His passion for basketball shaped much of his life’s work, leading him to a long and meaningful coaching career. He coached women’s basketball at Louisiana College, Southeastern Louisiana University, and at the professional level with the Detroit Shock. Coaching was never just a profession for Frank—it was a calling. He took pride in developing players not only as athletes, but as people.
Beyond the court, Frank was an avid reader and lifelong learner who valued knowledge, discipline, and quiet moments of reflection. Those who knew him best remember his steady presence, his commitment to his teams and family, and his love for teaching the game he cherished.
Frank is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol Ann Pettit Schneider, and their three children: Amy Schneider Danos (Gavin), Ashley Schneider McCrory (Phil), and Frank “Wes” Schneider IV (Sarah); and one brother, William “Roy” Schneider. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren—Slathan “Dain” Schneider, Kinsley Ann McCrory, Jansen Claire McCrory, Broxton Wes McCrory, Frank Wes Schneider “V”, and Ada “Gwyn” Schneider—and a great-grandfather to Halston Faye Schneider, each of whom brought him immense joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Wes Schneider, Jr., and Aline Wilson Schneider.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, January 17th, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a short service beginning at 3:00 p.m., at Harry McKneely Funeral Home in Hammond, Louisiana.
Frank’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he influenced as a coach, mentor, husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the building fund at Psalm 23 Church of Hope, 520 Belanger Lane, Kentwood, Louisiana, or to the Southeastern Louisiana University Athletic Department.
