Wavie Jean Lee Berne

Wavie Jean Lee Berne, of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away at Richard Murphy Hospice House on Monday, January 29, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born on March 9, 1936, in Oak Grove, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Willie Lee and Jessie Maude Boyte Lee.

Jean is survived by her children, Galen Berne (Barbara), Florence Thurman, Terri Hinshaw (Rickey), and Annette Bauers (Gary); grandchildren, Glenda Husser (Bo), Gayle Berne, Grant Berne, Gwen Sweeney (Chris), Gavin Berne (Kelly), James Thurman Jr. (Stephanie), Jammie Hauck (Kevin), Jana Soileau (Kent), David Nugent, Kelli Smith (Derek), Bryan Hinshaw (Brittany), Morris Bauers, and Sherry Verneuil; 17 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marie Lee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, George D. Berne; son, Tony Nugent; grandchildren, David Berne and Ashly Bauers; brothers, Bill Lee and his wife Toni Lee, and Don Lee; and son-in-law, James Thurman Sr.

Family and friends will be received at Grace Baptist Church of Tickfaw, 16372 Hwy 1064, Tickfaw, Louisiana 70466 on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. 

A Funeral Service will be held at Grace Baptist Church of Tickfaw on Friday at 11:00 am, with Bro. Mike Starkey officiating.

Interment will follow at Narretto Cemetery in Loranger, Louisiana.

Pallbearers will be James Thurman Jr., Grant Berne, Gavin Berne, David Nugent, Bryan Hinshaw, Logan Husser, Trace Hauck, Drew Sweeney, and Brad Adams.
