Wanda Virginia Henderson Cortez

Wanda Virginia Henderson Cortez went home to Jesus on July 7, 2022 at age 80.Wanda was born to Alonzo "Slim" Henderson and Willmena Martin Henderson on March 17th, 1942 in New Orleans, LA. As a child, she loved riding her bike, fishing with her dad and helping him in the garden, as well as playing ball with the neighbors. She was also active in Future Homemakers of America in high school.Wanda met her husband, Mark Davis Cortez in August of 1957 at a beach party in Slidell. They married January 3rd, 1960 and went on to have 3 children, Tammy Cortez McFadden, Mark Cortez Jr(Annette), and Denise Cortez Humphrey(Randy). They moved from Slidell to Manchac, Louisiana in 1966.In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Wanda also loved fishing, shrimping, crabbing and being a waitress at Middendorf's Restaurant. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponchatoula, LA.Wanda joins her mother, father, brother (Jerry Henderson) and best friend Lois Sykes in Heaven. She is survived by her husband, 3 children and their spouses, 9 grandkids, and 7 great-grandkids.All family and friends are invited to attend her celebration of life service at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home at 100 W Magnolia St. Ponchatoula, LA. Saturday, July 16th ,2022. Visitation 9 AM, Services at 11:00. Burial services will proceed afterwards at Sandhill Cemetery.
