On Friday, October 17, 2025, Virginia Lee Hano passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, at the age of 81. Virginia was born on Tuesday, November 16, 1943, and was a native and resident of Springfield, Louisiana. She was a graduate of Springfield High School and took classes at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Virginia loved the Lord and gave her life to Jesus as a young girl. She shared that she was baptized the old-fashioned way-- in an “actual” river. She attended the Baptist church and took part in church activities as long as her health allowed.
Virginia loved Noah, her beloved husband and friend, for 59 years. They were married on Christmas Day when Noah was home on leave from the service. She loved to share stories of her life growing up in Springfield and how they met (he fixed her mother’s flat tire). She shared memories of their honeymoon days on the Army base in Georgia, which included fishing trips with their Army friends, Jerry and Elizabeth.
Virginia enjoyed celebrating the holidays at home with family and friends, especially at Christmas. She loved to decorate the house and yard and shower her family with gifts. And the bigger the Christmas tree, the better. She loved to cook and bake. She was an excellent cook and prepared many Southern and Cajun meals. Nobody could make homemade gravy and cornbread dressing like Virginia. Over the years, she fed not only her family, but lots of their friends in the neighborhood. Many folks looked forward to eating at Maw-Maw and Pawpaw Hano’s for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She and her husband opened their hearts and home to many over the years.
Virginia had many hobbies; she liked gardening, tending to her flowers and plants, especially her rose bushes. She collected anything with a “Rooster” on it, and dolls, and occasionally, she would draw and paint.
Virginia especially loved to sing. In her childhood, Virginia used to sing on the local radio station with a group called “Radio Stars of Tomorrow.” Later in life, with assistance from a church group, she wrote and recorded a song titled “I Saw an Angel Today.” During the last months of her life, she struggled to sing Christian hymns with her daughters. The songs sounded even more precious as she tried to sing them in her weakened state.
She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, sisters, and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the following people for their compassionate care and aid during Virginia’s final months. These people made momma laugh and smile and have been a significant help to her children.
Her children, Vickie, Nicole, Rocky and Daniel, who saw to her every physical and all emotional needs; Susie and Dwight Hutchinson (Virginia’s younger sister and brother-in-law -law); Lori Threeton-Mrs. Lori was not only a sitter to Virginia these last six months, but she was a ray of sunshine and a friend. Lori often surprised her with gifts and food. We could not have asked for a more cheerful and compassionate companion; Grandchildren and great-grandchildren visited her in her last days and gathered around her in her final moments. Showing endless love.
The family would also like to extend their thanks and appreciation for Angela Hutchinson Varnado, Timothy Hawkins, Suzette Varnado and sister Tammy, Francis Calderone, Keith Picou and son Charlie Barcia, Mary Ann Bissel, and the North Oaks Hospice Staff.
We know that she is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and that she is with her family in Heaven now. She is not suffering any longer. There is no greater comfort than this.
She is survived by children, Vickie Hano Hawkins of Hammond, Rocky Hano of Springfield, Nicole Hano LeJeune (Brian) of Hammond, and Daniel Hano of Springfield; brother, James V. Lee Jr. (Edelgard) of Bossier City; sisters, Cathyleen Lee of Hammond and Susie Lee Hutchinson (Dwight) of Springfield,; 5 grandchildren, Kayla Clausen (Tony), Gauge Hano (Velina), Dustin Hano (Heather), Blade Hano (Megan), and Madison Kiss; 6 great-grandchildren, Sage Hano, Aria Hano, Preston Hano, Duncan McElveen, Parker Hano, EllaAnn Hano.
Virginia was preceded in death by husband, Noah P. Hano Jr.; sister, Linda Lee Adams; mother, Ruth DeArmond Lee; father, James V. Lee Sr.; and niece, Emily Winburn Robichaux
