Virginia “Ginger” Mary Dean passed away on March 15, 2026, in Loranger, Louisiana, at the age of 73. She was born on July 19, 1952, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late James and Ella Dean. She was a resident of Loranger, Louisiana.
Ginger had a deep love for animals, especially dogs and horses, and found her greatest peace outdoors tending to her flower beds and garden. She often joked that she was a part-time private detective, always curious and observant about the world around her. Ginger never met a stranger; she loved to talk and had a way of making everyone feel welcome. In her younger years, she participated in pageants and proudly held the title of Ms. Jefferson Parish from 1972 to 1973. Above all, she loved the Lord and cherished her family dearly.
Ginger is survived by her children, Holly Bensel - Kern (late husband, Blaine Kern), Christopher Bensel, and Christy Bensel; and her step-children, Laura Bensel Tizzard (Dennis), Bryan Bensel (Kathy), and niece, Carin Hunter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ella Dean, and her sister, Barbara Hill.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Graveside Service at St. Dominic Catholic Church Cemetery, 56131 Hwy 445, Husser, Louisiana 70442, on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 12:30 pm.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home and Crematory of Hammond and Ponchatoula.
