Virginia "Ginger" Danner Mclin

Virginia Danner McLin, who loved to be called “Ginger,” departed her loving family and friends in the afternoon of Friday, July 29, 2022.

Ginger was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 8, 1943, to Lorraine and James R. Danner, Sr. She attended St. Stephen’s Catholic High School, and was a devoted Roman Catholic Christian her entire life. Her primary goal in life was to instill a love of God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the Blessed Virgin Mary in her children’s hearts for eternity. Even in her death, “Mama” taught them God’s majesty, love, and grace.

Married to Gary Ronald McLin in 1965, Ginger was mother to Scott, Dana, and Erin. She raised her children with love and devotion in Metairie and then Ponchatoula, with her dearly beloved, belated husband of 53 years, “Ronnie.”

As a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana College (University) and then an elementary school teacher, Ginger was known for her devotion to her profession and dedication to her students in the Jefferson Parish Public School System for 32 years. Her school home was Green Park Elementary, where she taught beside many wonderful teachers who were her dear friends. Her hobbies included offering her talents in Catholic women’s organizations, such as the Knights of Columbus Women’s Auxiliary and the Rosary Altar Society at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula. Every Strawberry Festival for years, Ginger baked sought after strawberry cakes and painted children’s faces, which made her heart sing with joy. She was an extremely skilled seamstress, quilting a number of gorgeous quilts, one of which expressed her love of God. She gave to the Lord by sewing the beautiful banners that hang in St. Joseph’s church sanctuary. She was a master at sewing, crocheting, cooking, drawing, needlepoint, and ceramics, and instilled a love for arts and crafts in her two daughters. Ginger and Ronnie loved to travel and camp, and took their children on multiple fun and educational summer vacations in their Winnebago to national parks across America. Ginger was truly a teacher throughout her life.

She is survived by her children, Scott McLin (Cherie), Dana McLin (Jan), and Erin Casey (Jay), and her six grandchildren—Adrienne, Joseph, Katherine, Cameron, Sean, and Elizabeth.

A Holy Rosary (9:00 am), visitation (9:30-10:40 am), will be at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula, Monday, August 8, 2022. A funeral Mass (11:00 am) will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ponchatoula, followed by her interment at Sand Hill Cemetery on Monday, August 8,2022. Reception at the Ponchatoula Knights of Columbus Hall to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Rosary Altar Society at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church can be made in Ginger’s name.
