Vera was a graduate of Albany High School where she made the honor roll and won many Home Economics Awards for her skills at sewing and baking. She also received an Associates Business degree in bookkeeping from Baton Rouge Business College. It was during her time in Baton Rouge, that Vera was introduced to Jim. She and Jim exchanged letters while he was away in the military. Very shortly after their first in person meeting Jim proposed and they were married in 1964.
