Velma June Flynn, age 82, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, February 2, 2024, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, Louisiana. She was born on March 3, 1941, to the late Harley and Mary Vice in Germantown, Ohio and eventually settled down in Loranger, Louisiana to raise her big family. Upon moving to Louisiana, she quickly realized that the love language down south was through food and fellowship. She could cook and bake up a storm, and not just for her family but she would cook for the whole neighborhood. She could often be found working on puzzles, sewing (even though she wasn't very fond of sewing), or helping people. Velma June was a faithful God-fearing woman as by the definition of Proverbs 31. She was a nurturing woman who enjoyed doing the Lord’s work by caring for others. Most of all she loved her family and spending time with them making lasting memories that they will cherish forever. Velma June was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her and will be missed dearly.
She leaves behind her children, Dean Flynn (Cheryl), Anita Sharrock (John), Charlene Bryant (Ronnie), Brenda Short (Thomas), Delores Perez, Reba Tycer (James); grandchildren, Dawson Flynn, Danica Flynn, Randall Baudier (Kristen), Heather Burrell, Nolan Bryant, Kate Smith (Jeremy), Emily Short, Meghan Short, Jordan Perez (Ashley), Trenton Perez, Levi Bailey, Chance Tycer; great-grandchildren, Lucas Baudier, Isabella Burrell, Blake Burrell, Gabriel Bryant, Kai Barber, Mavis Perez, Eliza Perez, Aiden Tycer and Caden Tycer; sister, Wilma Crouse (Doug); brother, Michael Ray Vice (Becky); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
Preceding her in death were her beloved husband of 38 years, Randall Flynn; parents, Harley and Mary Vice; daughter, Edith Flynn; sister, Wanda Pheanis; brothers, Jerry Vice and David Vice; sons-in-law, Joe Perez and Robert "Bob" Baudier.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Oak Grove Church of God in Loranger from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Rod Smith will officiate the services with interment in the church cemetery.
