Tony Milazzo

Antonio “Tony” Milazzo, Sr. entered peacefully into eternal life while sleeping on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at the age of 92. He lived a long and full life dedicated to hard work, family, and friends.

Tony was born in Hammond, Louisiana on Friday, October 1, 1926, to John Milazzo and Mary Latino Milazzo. He spent much of his early life on the family farm, where he also discovered a passion for carpentry and woodworking. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served the country in World War II with tours of duty in Hawaii and the Philippines. After his return home, he went to work for the United Fruit Company and later retired from the United Steam Ship Association.

Tony’s loved ones will remember him with a smile. Whether intentionally or not, he easily made people laugh, and his impeccable dance moves will not soon be forgotten. His friends at Oak Park Village said, “He danced his way into heaven.”

Tony is survived by his sister, Frances Milazzo; brother, Louis Milazzo; son, Johnny Milazzo and his wife, Angela; daughter, Mary Milazzo Dunning and her husband, Tom; son, Frank Milazzo; son, Tony Milazzo Jr. and his wife, Melissa; daughter, Margaret Milazzo Parker and her husband, Marion; grandchildren, Amanda Milazzo Malachowski, John Milazzo, Frank Milazzo Jr., Amber Dunning, Joshua Milazzo, David Dunning, Mara Milazzo, Sydney Milazzo, Alexander Milazzo, Tony Milazzo III, and Madeline McCauley; and great-grandchildren, Jonathan Milazzo, Adyson Milazzo, Beckett Milazzo, Everett Dunning, Robert Malachowski, Margaret Ann Malachowski, and Eleanor Malachowski.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Milazzo and Mary Latino Milazzo; sister, Margaret Milazzo Lottinger; and brothers, Frank, Joe, Henry, and Joseph Milazzo.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the services celebrating Tony’s life at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond on Monday, December 3, 2018. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will follow in Colonial Cemetery in Independence.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Tony’s honor.
