Tony Joseph Divittorio

Tony Joseph DiVittorio passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 75. He was born on Thursday, February 15, 1945 in Independence, Louisiana to the late Catherine and Frank DiVittorio. He was a resident of Independence, Louisiana.

A son of immigrant farmers he was the first in his family to earn a Ph.D. He went on to be a research professor for LSU. After retiring from LSU he went on to work for the USDA where he was responsible for helping to prevent plant borne diseases from invading the United States. However, what he was most proud of were his sons Frank and Sam, until they were replaced by his granddaughter, Stella, who lit up his world.

Tony is survived by his wife, Carolyn DiVittorio; sons, Frank DiVittorio and Sam DiVittorio (Marcy); granddaughter, Stella DiVittorio; sister, Pietrina "Beatrice" Graffia (Tony), great-nephews, Dane and Gage DiVittorio; and many of his nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tony was also preceded in death by his brothers, Roy and Dan DiVittorio.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Hammond, 2000 N Morrison Boulevard, Hammond, LA 70401, beginning at 8:30 AM until 10:30 AM. A funeral mass will be held immediately following the visitation at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 609 3rd St., Independence, Louisiana 70443 at 11:00 AM, Interment will follow in Colonial Cemetery, Independence, Louisiana.

Face masks are now mandatory to attend any visitation or service at the funeral home and church.
