Thurrell Osborn Mcclendon, Ph.D

Thurrell Osborn McClendon, Ph.D, of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away at his home on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at the age of 90. He was born on July 4, 1930, in Poplarville, Mississippi, the son of the late Chester Eugene McClendon and Martha Elizabeth Glover McClendon. Thurrell was a proud retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He received his Ph.D at the University of Arkansas and retired as a Professor of Accounting from Southeastern Louisiana University after over 20 years. After his retirement, Thurrell became a licensed real estate agent and successfully worked in that field for several years. Thurrell was also a contractor, building many houses in the community and was a longtime member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church in Hammond.

Thurrell is survived by his wife, Anna Farkas McClendon; son, Howard Eugene McClendon (Brenda); step son, Jo Hutchinson (Carri); grandchildren, Crystal Faye Giles (Bryan), Ronald Osborn McClendon (Sydney), Barbara Ellen McClendon, Gianna Roppolo Ríos (Fernando), and Michael G. Wright; great grandchildren, Aiden Wright, Tyson Howard Giles, KatieAnn Mae Giles, Lillian Elizabeth McClendon, and Alyssa Brooke McClendon; sisters-in-law, Irene Farkas and Helen Farkas; brother-in-law, Joey Farkas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Thurrell was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Ann Martin McClendon; daughters, Dr. Elizabeth Ann McClendon Norwood and Tracy Lyn McClendon Roppolo; grandson, Thurrell "T.D." Wright; and siblings, Oscar, Lucille, Claude, Theodore, Onita, Paul, J.P. "Jake," Clyde, Joyce and two sisters that died at birth.

A Family Graveside Service will be held at Rose Memorial Park Cemetery, 1300 Pecan Street, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Saturday, December 12th at 12:00 pm, with Fr. Paul Bailey officiating.

Face masks are mandatory to attend any service and we ask that you maintain a respectful distance with the family. Thank you for your cooperation.
