Thomas Joseph Kuhn loving Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025 while being visited by family. Thomas was born April 15, 1941 one of 9 children born to E.P and Mildred McDaniel Kuhn.
Thomas spent essentially his entire work life in the jobs he loved as a teacher, coach and school administrator. He loved the opportunity to work, coach and assist young people in pursuing their education and was a strong supporter of students being exposed to the trades. Thomas’ work career placed him in several local schools as well as those out of state. In Louisiana, Thomas spent time with his students and athletes at Ponchatoula High School, Mandeville High School, Istrouma High School, Kenilworth School in Baton Rouge as well at Southwood Academy in Hammond, Louisiana and finally at Springfield High School. His devotion to his students and athletes brought him enormous joy. Working outside of Louisiana, Thomas served as both Coach and Principal in Shiprock, New Mexico, Kirtland High School in New Mexico and Alice, Texas. Thomas finished his career at Springfield High School and retirement saw him yearning to coach and to teach again.
Coaching was natural for Thomas. He was granted a track scholarship to Southeastern Louisiana College from where he graduated with both a bachelor and masters degrees and had completed 30 hours of college hours past the masters degree. While in high school, Thomas was President of the Student Body and lettered 3 years in football, basketball and track, the only 3 sports offered in Ponchatoula. He was all district in sports and Captain of the basketball team, all while playing with a vision problem that he had since childhood.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Anna Beth Boetler, his brothers Percy, Percy’s wife Shirley Daniels Kuhn, brother Robert Kuhn, his sisters Edith Kuhn White and Myra Kuhn Ramsey, Myra’s husband Loyd Ramsey. Sister Katherine Kuhn Billing’s husband, Arthur W. Billings also predeceased Thomas.
He is survived by His son Thomas Kuhn, Jr and his wife Deborah Johns Kuhn and their daughter, Nora Kuhn. Thomas is also survived by his daughter Timmi Thompson and her sons and Thomas grandchildren , Jeremy Short and Jason Gammett. He is survived by his brothers Marion Paul Kuhn and wife Brenda Bell Kuhn, Albert Kuhn and his wife Kathy Durr Kuhn, Katherine Kuhn Billings and brother James E. “Jimmy” Kuhn and his wife Cheryl Aucoin Kuhn. Thomas is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Thomas is greatly missed by his family and friends.
