Ted Darland Cason or “Paw Ted”, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, at The Phoenix Living Center in Hammond, LA surrounded by his beloved wife and sons. Born on March 18, 1934, he was a lifelong resident of Tangipahoa Parish and was born and raised in Independence, LA.

Ted is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Jean Shirley Garon Cason; his sons, Kyle Cason (Kim), and Alan Cason (Dawn). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kristen Cason Taylor (Josh), Kraig Cason (Amanda), Scott Cason (Sophia), Brett Cason (Shelby); and by his great-grandchildren: Kailey Taylor, Jordan Taylor, Elora Cason, Theodore Cason, Hunter Cason, Eli Cason, Isaac Cason, Kennedy Cason, and Charlotte Cason.

Ted’s Quote: “The most wonderful experiences and times of my life came with the marriage to my darling and thoughtful wife, Jean “MiMi” and my wonderful, thoughtful, and fun family.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eunice Mary Cason, and Omer Blanchard Cason, and his beloved granddaughter, Lindsey Jean Cason.

A proud graduate of Independence High School, Ted was a member of the football, track, and basketball teams and an enthusiastic member of the band. He continued his education at Southeastern Louisiana University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education, a Master’s Degree in Education, and a Master's Degree in Administration.

Ted lived a rich and active life. He enjoyed training bird dogs for field trials, horseback riding, fishing, playing basketball, bingo, watching old western movies, and spending time with his dear “coffee crew” friends. Above all Ted was devoted family man who adored his wife and remained deeply involved in the lives and activities of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was outgoing, talkative, kind, and always ready with a joke. Loved and respected by friends, colleagues, and community members. Ted’s presence brought warmth and joy wherever he went.

The family extends many heartfelt thanks to the North Oaks office and medical staff for their dedicated care, especially Dr. Charles Ducombs, Dr. John Allen, and Dr. Jared Rochelle. They would also like to express deep appreciation to the staff of The Phoenix Living Center and Modern Home Health and Hospice.
