Sylvia "Sue" Pierce Perilloux

Sylvia Sue Pierce Perilloux, a longtime resident of Hammond, Louisiana, and Natchez, Mississippi, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023, at The Columns Community Care Center in Jonesville, Louisiana. Born on June 18, 1933, in McComb, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Leo Pierce and Ivel Golda Lewis Pierce.

Sue lived a full life, taking up residence in three different countries. In La Lima, Honduras, she and her childhood friend embarked on a swimming cycle, tennis match, round of golf and horseback riding expedition, all in the same day, to complete a milestone marathon. After her family moved back to Louisiana, she graduated from Louise S. McGehee School in New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. For more than a decade, she served families throughout Tangipahoa Parish as a case worker for the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services in Amite. She also lived in Mississippi, Texas, Florida and Turkey, where she and her husband, Herman, visited one of Christianity's earliest churches, established by the Apostle Peter, in Antioch (present-day Antakya). An avid reader, she loved mysteries, the National Geographic magazine, playing Scrabble and being with her family. In her final hours, she and her family members enjoyed singing the hymns of her Christian faith, including Amazing Grace, Is Well With My Soul, and How Great Thou Art.

Sue is survived by her two sons, Glen Perilloux and wife Brenda of Vidalia, Louisiana, and Gary Perilloux and wife Joy of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and her granddaughter, Laura Perilloux Lyons and husband Stafford of Shreveport, Louisiana. Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman Dillard Perilloux; her sister, Miriam Pierce Saidla; and her brother, Clyde Lewis Pierce.

Graveside Services were held at Greenlawn Cemetery, 1001 Western Avenue, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Friday, February 3, 2023, with the Rev. R.W. "Woody" Markert officiating.
