Susie Louisie Brown Allshouse

Susie Louise Brown Allshouse passed away on January 26, 2023, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital, just two days shy of her 80th birthday. She was a resident of Loranger, Louisiana. Susie was born on January 28, 1943, to the late Joseph E. “Jack” Brown and Mathilda Lloyd Brown.

She is survived by her children Dianna (Shelton) Allshouse-Lacombe, Robert Allshouse, Matthew (Wendy) Allshouse, Elyzabeth Allshouse, Tia Allshouse, Jonathan Allshouse, and Brianna Allshouse, as well as 11 beloved grandchildren and 6 precious great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herman Finley Allshouse, her daughter Patricia “Patty” Lyons, her grandson Chad Allshouse, her great-grandson Gauge Lyons, her sister Jewel “Pat” Bitterolf, and her daughter-in-law Coye Allshouse.

Susie leaves behind a lifelong legacy of service and selflessness. As a military spouse she traveled the world and the United States with her husband and their 4 children and assisted with many on-base organizations. After her husband’s retirement from the service, the two became dedicated foster parents, welcoming countless children into their hearts and home. Her favorite pastime during those years was rocking a baby to sleep on her chest. They would also go on to adopt 4 children out of the foster care system.

Susie was also devout Catholic, and her faith guided her all the way through to the end. While living as resident in Marrero, Louisiana, she was an active member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and served the community for many years alongside her fellow parishioners and friends. She was also a volunteer with The Society of St. Vincent de Paul and was an honorary member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.

Susie was recognized for service efforts her dedication as a foster and adoptive parent by the New Orleans City Council, the City of New Orleans, Jefferson Parish, the Archdiocese of New Orleans, and the state of Louisiana.

She had a witty sense of humor and a heart as big as the Earth. Susie loved gardening, scrolling through “The Facebook,” talking on the phone to family and friends, and being surrounded by her large family. She especially loved having her home full of children running about. She never met a stranger and always put everyone else before herself. She would welcome anyone into her home and provided them unwavering help and support…Her love for people was felt by all. She was truly an amazing person and an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Drive, Slidell, 70460, on  Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at 10:00 AM.
