Susan Marie McKean Smith

Susan Marie McKean Smith, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at the age of 72. She was born on Wednesday, April 25, 1951, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Oley A. McKean Sr. and Georgette Marie Martin McKean. Susan received an LPN degree in Hammond and worked for Hammond Nursing Home over 20 years and Lakeview Hospital in Covington for numerous years. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula. Susan was a very talented seamstress and baker, and she loved traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Susan is survived by her sons, Chuck Milton (fiancée, Alana Riley) and James "Jamie" Milton; grandchildren, Alexis Milton, Jacob Milton, Gabrielle Milton, Eva  Falcon, Caleb Milton, and Michael Milton; great grandson, Jackson Grey; brothers, Oley A. McKean IV, Wilkin J.M. McKean (Sharon), George A. McKean (Julie), Fred J. McKean (Stacey), and Pete D. McKean (Nancy); and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her grandparents, George Martin and Nola Bouvier Martin, and Oley McKean II and Blanche Matherne McKean.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Monday, November 27, 2023 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday at 11:00 am, with Deacon Larry Melancon officiating.

Susan's final resting place will be with her parents at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Hammond, Louisiana.
