Stanley Joseph Quave, of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the age of 78 at University Medical Center. He took his last breath in the arms of his loving wife of 53 years, Betty Gayle McLaughlin Quave; and daughter, Jaime Charlene Quave.
Born in Bogalusa, Louisiana on January 18, 1948, son of the late John Horace Quave and Anna Mae McCraney Quave. Stanley grew up in Covington, Louisiana playing basketball and billiards. He proudly answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His bravery in combat earned him several medals including the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal for his bravery and dedication. After his service in the war, he returned home where he met and married his loving wife, Gayle. They relocated to Hammond, Louisiana where he was employed for 24 years with the United States Postal Service.
Stanley is survived by brothers, Louis Quave (June), James "Bubbie" Quave, and Sydney Quave Galloway; nieces and nephews, Jeff Quave (Melinda), Michael Quave, Todd Quave, Christi Brugier, Tracey Fitzmorris, Shawn Fitzmorris, Todd Gennardo, Samantha Hall and Savannah Hall; extended family, Mikhael Deliberto & family, James Lewis & family, Andrei Ciolacu (Lidia), Vitalie Guminic (Simona), Sergiu Sirghi (Nidia), Sorin Golubas (Irina), Oleg Balaban (Rodica), Constantine Cernean (Natalia) and Ion Melestean.
In addition to his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by his sister, Dianne Fitzmorris (Abe); brother, John Horace Quave Jr. (Ramona); mother-in-law, Bertha Lee McLaughlin (Elwood); and nephew, Chad Gennardo (Jaime).
Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Thursday, March 19th from 3pm - 5pm. A funeral service with military honors will begin at 5pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stanley's memory to the following foundations: Dementia Society of America, National Kidney Foundation, American Parkinson Disease Foundation, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
The family expresses eternal gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Dr. John Simone and Jennifer Roche NP with Northlake Nephrology Institute Covington, LA, the physicians, nurses and support staff at Lakeview Regional Medical Center Mandeville, LA and University Medical Center New Orleans, LA.
