Shirley Bourgeois

Shirley Bennett Bourgeois, of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023, at the age of 91. She was born on July 31, 1931, in Amite, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Farley Bennett and Cora Lou Harper Bennett. Shirley worked as a stock room manager for numerous department stores including Rose's and Beall Ladyman until she retired. She was very independent and loved retired life where she could go out shopping and visiting family.

Shirley is survived by her grandchildren, Allison Jenkins (Lynn), Desiree Bourgeois, Amy Bourgeois, Brad Alack (Michelle), Chris Alack (Marisa), and Kathryn Howard (Robby), great grandchildren, Olivia Jenkins, Savanna Bourgeois, Taylor Bourgeois, Wyatt Joseph Bourgeois, Bennett Alack, Owen Alack, Camille Alack, Mary-Ainsley Alack, Anne-Marie Alack, Robert Howard, and Luke Howard; sisters, Louise Lee and Nina Gresham; daughter-in-law, Agnes Bourgeois; son-in-law, John Alack; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Alcide "A.A." Bourgeois; son, Thomas Bourgeois; daughter, Mary Alack; grandchildren, Tommy Bourgeois, Kimberley Alack, and Nicholas Alack; and siblings, Stanley Wade Bennett, Alice Ballard, Margaret Gordon, Frankie Ransow, and Edward Bennett.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. with a Funeral Service at 11:00 am.

Interment will follow at Ponchatoula Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
