Shirley Ann Kennedy Losey

It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone who was loved and cherished.  Family and friends must now say goodbye to their beloved Shirley Ann Kennedy Losey.  Shirley peacefully passed away with family by her side on May 8, 2022, at the age of 80, after a courageous battle caused by cancer.  Born in Louisiana on September 29, 1942, to her mother, Gracie Brown Kennedy and father, Felder Vernon Kennedy, she enjoyed many years in Ponchatoula.  She later resided in Georgia and Florida and spent her final days with her son in California.  Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, and her husbands, Wayne Cutrer and Gregg Losey.

Shirley loved school and was an outstanding student.  She considered it an honor to become editor of the high school yearbook and be voted “Miss PHS” by the student body as she completed her senior year.  Shirley later graduated from Southeastern University with a Bachelor's Degree, and went on to receive her Master's Degrees in both Mathematics and English from Louisiana State University.

Shirley’s passion in life was love of students and teaching.  As a Mathematics teacher in Florida, she received her National Board Certification and was named “One of the Four Top Teachers” in Florida.  Her pride and joy were the many successes of her students and included numerous communications from them, where some were the first in their family to graduate from high school.  Shirley enjoyed reading and was also an excellent seamstress and cook.  She was generous with her talents and prepared many gifts for family, friends, and neighbors.

Shirley is survived by those she considered her greatest legacy, one son, David Cutrer and wife Beth; grandchildren, Nicholas and Amanda Cutrer.  Survivors also include her sister, Bette Kennedy Laird and her family.   Joining these are other members of the family and longtime friends that know Shirley will be dearly missed.  Memories of Shirley Ann will always embrace a kind heart, keen mind, and brave spirit.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, 100 West Magnolia Street, on Friday, June 3, 2022.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at the Ponchatoula Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
