Sargent Stanley Podworny peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 78. He was born on Tuesday, April 30, 1946, in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Stanley and Exilda Vienes Podworny. He was a resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
Sargent was a proud Navy veteran who dedicated his life to service and hard work. He had a deep appreciation for military history, spending years collecting military surplus and admiring the legendary B-17 bomber planes. A man of many talents, he worked as a nuclear boiler inspector for much of his career and also spent time as a commercial fisherman. In his free time, he enjoyed watching classic cowboy movies, drawn to their timeless stories of resilience and honor. Now, he is joyfully reunited with his beloved dog, Sir Macaford Jones, sharing endless butt scratches and the companionship they both cherished.
Sargent is survived by his daughter, Dawn Podworny; brother, Wayne Podworny Vienes; Godchild, Robyn "Beano" Roney; "his boys", Michael and Christopher Sumner, and honorary daughter, Pixie Blazek.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Rung Podworny; parents, Stanley and Exilda Podworny; brother, Bucky Podworny, and fur baby, Sir Macaford Jones.
Sargent will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home and Crematory of Hammond and Ponchatoula.
