Sam Signorelli peacefully passed away on January 13, 2021 at his home in Hammond,LA at the age of 93.  Sam was born February 6, 1927 in New Orleans to parents Joseph & Rosina Signorelli. Sam was a WWII Navy Veteran and a life-long member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. Sam was married to Madeline Signorelli for over 60 years.

 

Graduating from LSU in Agricultural Education, he later used that knowledge through the years to beautify the property he and his wife, Madeline owned, with camellias,azaleas and native plants.

 

After completing his education, Sam co-owned and operated Hammond Auto Sales for several decades.

He was an avid boater leading to his interest in safe boating practices for the public.  This became a passion of his, where he taught the Coast Guard’s approved classes for many years. As a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Sam served in every aspect including more than four terms as Flotilla Commander. He set records that have yet to be surpassed in safe boat inspections.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Rosina Signorelli; three sisters: Mary Whynot, Vita Hapuik, and Augustine Perkins; and a brother, Joseph Signorelli.

 

He is survived by his sons Mike Rogers (Cheryl), Ronnie Rogers (Tina), Rickie Rogers (Pam)and a daughter Leisa DeBlieux (Deek).

 

He is also survived by his sisters Jennie Rose Rogers of Baton Rouge and Esther Truxillo of Mobile, AL.  He had 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial service will be held in Sam’s honor as well as with Madeline’s at McKneely Funeral Home in Hammond. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 30 at 9:30 am with a memorial service at 11:00 am and graveside services after at Rose Memorial Cemetery in Hammond, LA.  The family would like to thank Superior Home Health and Modern Hospice for their care and attention to detail, as well as for the exemplary sitters provided by Magnolia Senior Care.  The family requests that any donations be considered for the Alzheimer's Association-Louisiana Chapter.
