Ryan Joseph Schexnayder Sr., age 54, of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020. He was also known as âShoepicâ to many of his friends and âBooâ to his family. Â He was born on Tuesday, February 22, 1966, in Lutcher, Louisiana, to Percy Schexnayder, Sr. and Laura Nell Lambert Schexnayder. Ryan has worked for Atmos Energy for the past 35 1/2 years. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus which is the highest and most prestigious degree. Family and friends meant everything to Ryan, and he would drop everything to help them no matter what time of day. Ryan played Thaddeus for the past 12 years in the live reenactment of the Last Supper. He enjoyed life and loved fishing, hunting, cooking (his world famous jambalaya), dancing, hanging with friends, and playing Santa, but he especially loved spending time with his family.
Ryan is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Tammie Wintz Schexnayder, his children, Ryan Schexnayder, Jr. (Ann Megan Morse), Emma Schexnayder, and Reid Schexnayder, his brothers, Brian (Marlene) Schexnayder, Percy (Leslie) Schexnayder, Jr. and Ernie Schexnayder, his uncle, Jay Schexnayder, his mother-in-law, Margaret E. Wintz, his brother-in-law, Thomas (Amy) Wintz, Jr., also many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Ryan was preceded in death by his parents, Percy Schexnayder, Sr. and Laura Nell Lambert Schexnayder, his brother, Jeffrey Paul Schexnayder, his father-in-law, Thomas Wintz, Sr., and his beloved dog, Char.
A Visitation for Ryan will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm and continue Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 8:30 am until 11:00 am at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond. A Funeral Mass Celebrating Ryan's Life will follow later at 2:00 pm at St. Dominic Catholic Church in New Orleans. Interment will follow at St. Gabriel Catholic Church Cemetery in Saint Gabriel, Louisiana.
Face masks are mandatory to attend any visitation or service at the funeral home and the church and we ask that you maintain a respectful distance with the family. Thank you for your cooperation.
