Ruth Lipscomb Naquin, of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away peacefully in the arms of her loving son and daughter-in-law on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born on July 10, 1936, in Hammond, Louisiana, the daughter of the late John William Lipscomb Sr. and Thelma King Lipscomb. Ruth was a graduate of Hammond High School Class of 1955. She worked at Southeastern Louisiana University where she met her future husband, Ray, and she later groomed poodles to fund family vacations. Ruth and Ray built their lives together in Hammond, raising their family and always made of point of giving back to their community. Together they built Hammond Nursing Home in 1974 and have remained owners and operators ever since.
Ruth had a servant's heart, truly loving the Lord as well as her neighbor in all that she did. She was a dedicated member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, including involvement in the Mothers Club and the Bereavement Committee. She was instrumental in the growth of St. Vincent de Paul in Hammond and supported their efforts to provide families with meals and shelter. Ruth was a supporter of Uniforms for Kids, provided families in need with gifts and food during Christmas, and sponsored international children. She was a member of several Southeastern University organizations such as the Southeastern FeLions and supported various needs of the university. Ruth was also proudly named Junior Auxiliary Woman of the Year in 2011. Through her spirit of generosity, Ruth was able to touch so many lives. Ruth was loved and cherished by all who knew her.
Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a friend to all. She is survived by her husband of almost 67 years, Raymond Anthony Naquin; son, Marcus Christopher Naquin and wife Michelle; daughter, Michelle Naquin Cartier and husband Jim; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Connie Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her siblings, Bonnie Fagan Rogers and William "Billy" Lipscomb Jr.
Family and friends will be received at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 600 North Oak Street, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Monday, August 5, 2024 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.
A Funeral Mass will begin on Monday at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow at Holly Gardens Cemetery in Hammond, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth's memory to St. Vincent de Paul in Hammond or St. Vincent de Paul Uniforms for Kids at svdpbr.org/donate.
