Wood, Russell Frederick “Chip”

Russell was born August 30, 1937, in Chicago, IL to the late Marion and Patricia Norlin Wood and passed away December 18, 2020, at his home in Ponchatoula, LA at age 83.  A longtime resident of LaPlace, LA, Russell retired from Aurora Equipment Company in Aurora, IL and served as a U.S. Marine for six years including a deployment to Cuba during the Bay of Pigs.  His greatest joy was his family, and enjoyed traveling, entertaining family and friends at his home, and LSU football.  Russell is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Ann Kurtz Wood; children, Stephanie Waguespack and husband Francis, Pattie Schoen and husband Lloyd, and Russell Stephen Wood; grandchildren, Candace Haydell, Sarah Flinn, Jason Waguespack, Ryan Acosta, Dane Acosta, Jessica Wood, and Russell Thomas Wood.  He is also survived by his fifteen great-grandchildren.  Visiting will be Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, LA from 9:00 am until religious services at 11:00 am.  Interment with military honors will follow in Gardens of Memories Cemetery, Metairie, LA at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bridgeway Hospice, 13702 Coursey Blvd., Suite 5B, Baton Rouge, LA  70817.

Face masks are mandatory to attend any visitation or service at the funeral home and the church and we ask that you maintain a respectful distance with the family. Thank you for your cooperation.
