Rosie Dee Hanna Howes

Rosie Dee Hanna Howes of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on January 18, 2024 at the age of 87. She was born on January 18, 1937 in New Orleans. She was the daughter of the late Leon Voil Hanna and Ellla Ruby Robertson Hanna. She has one brother, William Wade Hanna and one sister Trilby Faye Hanna Soles.

Rosie Dee is survived by her 3 children, son John Raymond Howes, daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Larry Byers, and son and daughter-in-law, Don and Julie Howes. 

Rosie Dee was better known as MawMaw DD to her 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren: Krysti Byers, Karen Byers Raiford, her husband Kevin Raiford, their children Lathan, Landen, Lawson, and Landry Raiford, Kory Byers, his children Hayden, Haylee, and Madison Byers, Anna Howes Price, her fiancé Vernon Hodges, and her children Dylan, Parker, and Ella Price, Justin Howes and his wife Brittany, their children Layla East, Conner, and Caleb Howes, Brody Howes and his wife Carrie, their children Braden, Baylen, and Bryson Howes, Chance Howes and his wife Maegan, their children Piper and Royce Howes, Brianna Orlando and her daughter Emma Rose, and Austin Orlando.

DD loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with her whole heart, always replying to  “I love you” with “I love you more!”

Rosie Dee was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Booth Howes, who loved her dearly and spoiled her rotten. They loved each other and their family unconditionally. They cherished their time with their family, especially their time as grand and great grandparents, even though they struggled with calling them by their right name!

Rosie also had “her angels” at The Phoenix Assisted Living Center, where Bingo was always a priority. The family is grateful for all the love and care she received from the staff. 

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue at Harry McKneely & Son - Ponchatoula on Monday, January 22, 2024 from 9:00 am until the Funeral Service begins at 11:00 am.

Interment will follow at Howes Family Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
