Rory Carlos Smith

Rory Carlos Smith passed away peacefully at his home in Tickfaw, Louisiana, on April 16, 2023.  He was born on March 3, 1960, in Jefferson, Louisiana, to Cheryl Rainey Recotta of Greenwood, Mississippi.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Malcolm Rayfield Rainey, Sr. and Grace Lennard Rainey; brother in law, Melvin “Chris” Oller; and niece, Casey Jolene Oller.

Rory is survived by his wife of 38 years, Violet Oller Smith and their children Scott Hoover (Pam), Jim Hoover (Charyn), Tiffany Smith Brown (Nick), and Kimberly Smith (Steve); fourteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.  Rory is also survived by his sisters, Teri Smith Kliebert (Donald), Desha Recotta, and Shana Romano; sisters in law, Ruby Sauls (Dale), Shirley Oller, and Vel Addison; and brother in law, Walter Oller.  

Rory was baptized at Sunrise Acres Baptist Church in Marrero, Louisiana, at the age of 11.

Rory enjoyed yard work, camping, fishing, and spending time with his family.  He loved holidays and joyous gatherings of family and friends.  He was a dedicated family man who was hard working and goal oriented.

Services will be held Thursday, April 20, at Antioch Baptist Church in Tickfaw, Louisiana.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Scott Hoover.  Burial will follow at Antioch Church Cemetery with Scott Hoover, Jim Hoover, Walter Oller, Dale Sauls, Donald Kliebert, T.J. Polezcek, Coal Hoover, Seth Burkhalter, C.J. Oller, Jr. and Treavor Jenkins serving as pallbearers.
