Robin Elizabeth Allen

Robin Elizabeth Allen was born December 5, 1955, in Belzoni, MS and passed away February 4, 2024, at her residence in Amite, LA. She was 68 years old.

Robin identified as an “eccentric” and anyone that knew her got to know that quickly. She was creative, boisterous, opinionated, and unapologetically herself. In her early adult years, Robin thrived in the lively French Quarter. She enjoyed working at the Chart Room and making friends with everyone she met. After her stint in New Orleans, Robin spent several years in the US Navy and was deployed for Operation Desert Storm. She was a journalist during her years of duty and writing was a huge passion of hers. She received her Master of Arts in Creative Writing from Southeastern Louisiana University and went on to teach there and with their Upward Bound Program. Robin was also passionate about politics, fashion, and theater. In recent years, Robin was retired and enjoyed spending time with her mother, whom she was very close with.

Robin is survived by her mother, Beverly Hyde; brothers, Steve Allen (Cindi), Jerry-Wayne Hyde; sister, Anne Hyde Ford (Bill); sister-in-law, Denise Allen; nieces, Samantha Carey (Tyler) and Hayley Dickens (Justin); nephew, Logan Hyde; great niece, Kora Dickens; and dear friend, Andre Perry. She is preceded in death by her grandparents; father, George Allen; stepfather, Jerry Hyde; brother, Don Allen; niece, Summer Allen; great niece, Kallie Dickens; and special puppies, Zeus and Karma.

There will be a service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that people wishing to honor Robin’s memory donate to Keeping A Light, a nonprofit founded in memory of her great niece Kallie, that supports children battling cancer and their families. KeepingALight.org
