Robert Edward Townsend passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026 in Ponchatoula LA, at the age of 76. He was born on February 13,1950 in Winnsboro LA, to the late Earl Wayford Townsend Sr. and Mary Johnston Townsend. Robert Grew up in Joyce La. and was a current resident of of Ponchatoula La. He served in the military in the year 1968. He worked at Tremont Lumber Co., Crown Zellerbach Corporation and Westgate Electric, where he was contracted out to Union Pacific Railroad Co. Because of his hard work and dedication he was hired by Union Pacific Railroad, where after 20 years of service he would retire as a Lead Electrician.
There was never a task too little or too big that he could not construct, build or repair. Everyone knew he was the "Go To Man" "R.T.", when something had to be figured out and accomplished. R.T. would never settle for not making it happen. He loved hunting, fishing and investing in antique vehicles which he dearly loved the challenge of restoring and rebuilding.
Robert is survived by his wife of 44 years, Donna Braun Townsend; daughter & son-in-law, Amanda Townsend Griffen and Bo Griffen, son & daughter-in-law, Kevin Robert Townsend and Kendra Townsend, son, Ryan Edward (Rudy) Townsend; grandchildren, Krystal Kenney, Zoe Griffin, Chemae Griffin, Hunter Townsend, Kreek Townsend and Kash Mason; Robert is also survived by six great-grandchildren; his brothers, Earl Townsend, Jr. (Katherine), Aaron Townsend (Karen), sister, Mary Townsend Carnes (Donald), sister-in-law, Diane Braun Bankston, brother-in-law, Robbie Braun; numerous nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Wayford Townsend Sr. and Mary Johnston Townsend; brother, Daniel Townsend, mother-in-law, Ruby Braun, sister-in-law, Dale Braun DePaula, brother-in-law, James "Jimmie" Bankston.
"A Special Thank You To", North Oaks in-patient rehabilitation and Apex Hospice, especially, Barry Bankston, Brandi Randall and Chris McIntyre.
And also to family, friends and dear neighbors for their prayers and constant support! This journey and throughout.
Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
There will also be a visitation on Saturday March 28, at Southern Funeral Home, 202 East Lafayette Street, Winnfield LA. 71483, from 9:00a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with a funeral service beginning at 11:00a.m.
Interment will follow at Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
