Robert "Bob" George Scanlan peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 16, 2024 in Covington, Louisiana at the age of 72.  He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Augusta and Edward Scanlan on June 10, 1951.  He was a true hero of the people, protecting the lives of strangers as a Fire Captain for Jefferson Parish Fire Department with over 25 years of dedicated service.  He proudly served 4 years in the United States Navy and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.  When he wasn't helping people, he could often be found working on his crossword puzzles, sipping on his Jack Daniels on the rocks, putting on the best firework displays, fishing,  water sports, or playing with his puppies. When he was able, he loved to ride his motorcycle and felt free with the wind rushing past him as he barreled down the road.  All while being an amazing husband and father, making sure his family was taken care of, from teaching them to be safe to the famous dad talks to the surprise vacations on a whim.  He was the definition of a patriarch of the family.  Bob and his family loved to travel from the Alaskan Mountains to the beaches of Florida, where he enjoyed spending these precious moments with his family making lasting memories they will cherish forever.  The man is gone, but his legacy lives on in the memories left behind and is already deeply missed by all who knew him.

He leaves behind his adoring wife of 37 years, Debbie Scanlan; children, Sean Scanlan, Corey Scanlan, Kelly Monteverde (Eric), Lacey Scanlan; grandchildren, Taylor, Joey and Jackson; siblings, Kathleen Mokry, Augusta Scanlan, and Marguerite Scanlan Hugo; bestfriend, Raymond Bouquet; as well as his furbabies, Rusty and Sophie Scanlan.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Augusta and Edward Scanlan; as well as his siblings, Edward Scanlan Jr., Mary Ellen Griffin, and Patricia Scanlan.
