Robert David "Bobby" LeBlanc, Sr.

Robert David "Bobby" LeBlanc, Sr., a lifelong resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the age of 89. He was born on November 1, 1933, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, the son of the late John LeBlanc and Inez Orillion LeBlanc. Bobby was raised in Ponchatoula and started playing guitar when he was fourteen years old. He joined the Navy at eighteen during the Korean War and served on a destroyer ship the USS Lofberg (DD-759). When he returned home from the Navy he went back to playing music and met the love of his life, Lena LeBlanc on August 17, 1954. They were married soon after and Bobby continued playing music. He played country and gospel performing for audiences in countless local venues including the South Louisiana Hayride, a place where many of the greats would play. Later in his career, he and his wife would visit churches and nursing homes playing music. Bobby was a devoted Christian and will be remembered as the best husband, father and Paw Paw Bobby.

In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy LeBlanc; grandsons, Joey Helg and Sam Cooper; and siblings, Byrdie Collier, Allie LeBlanc, Bertha Settoon, and Alvin LeBlanc.

Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Lena LeBlanc LeBlanc; children, David LeBlanc, Jr. (Margaret), Kathy Helg (Ricky), and Tammy Savona (Chad); grandchildren, Steven LeBlanc (Wanda), John LeBlanc, Matthew Cooper, Kristy Rocquin (Casey), Ryan Helg (Tiffini), Elton LeBlanc (Brittany), Ashley Anderson (Aaron), David Byers (Ashley), Mary Beth Byers Burns (T.J.), and Sarah Byers; great grandchildren, Alliyah, Emma, James, Olivia, Adalease, Des, Alexis, Mattisyn, Aren, Madilyn, Daxton, Stella, Beckett, Paul, Lily, and T.J.; great great grandchildren, Nova and Ayden; daughter-in-law, Kay Morris (Terry); and numerous nieces and nephews. Also survived by his dearest friend who was like a brother, Mike Dehnel whom he played music with for over 55 years and who gave Bobby the nickname "Bucket".

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. 

A Funeral Service will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Ponchatoula , on Wednesday at 1:00 pm.

Interment will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
