Robert Edward Anderson passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017 after a long illness. He was 70 years old.  Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Robert was a life-long resident of New Orleans and Metairie, Louisiana. He attended St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis, MS and the University of New Orleans. Robert had a keen diverse, interest in a variety of subjects and had careers in K-9 law Enforcement, charter fishing and auto racing. In 1970, he was the NHRA Top Fuel World Champion in drag racing. Robert was known in drag racing circles as the “The Sunshine Super Duck” and his car was featured prominently in magazines and on a bubble-gum card. 

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Fernandez Anderson, daughter, Evelynn Anderson Lugo, son Gus Anderson and Laura Ashley, brother-in-laws Wayne and Rick Fernandez “Coach”, son-in law George Lugo, grandsons Matthew and Alex Lugo, and the beloved extended Davis Family: Heidi and Jerome, Baron and Lindsey, Wendy and Paul, Luke and Danielle. 

He is preceded in death by his mother, Dr. Carolynn Talley Anderson, M.D., father, Gus Anderson, M.D., mother in- law, Frances Fernandez, daughter, Susie Anderson Angeron, and brother-in-law Earl Fernandez. 

The family would like to thank Dr. Lois Milander, M.D. and Henry Pretus, M.D. of East Jefferson General Hospital, and the compassionate people of Passages Hospice and the Sanctuary for their care and support. 

He will be buried at a private family service at Harry McKneely & Son in Hammond, Louisiana.
