Richard Edward Burton, Sr.

Richard Edward "Dickie" Burton, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 87. He was born on Friday, January 6, 1939 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Grace Graziano Burton and the late Edward R. Burton, Sr. He was a resident of Tickfaw, Louisiana. Dickie began work as a firefighter when he was 19 years old and continued working in fire safety for 36 years, retiring as Assistant Fire Chief of Hammond Fire Department at 55 years old. He was a faithful member of Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church in Tickfaw.

Dickie is survived by his son, Richard Edward Burton, Jr.; daughter, Rebecca Burton; daughter, Yvette Burton Rose & her husband, Paul; grandchildren, Adam Ourso, Samantha Ourso Kugler, Christina Ourso, Megan Braden, Blake Sistrunk, and Jacob Rose; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Nadine Burton Lagarde.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward R. Burton, Sr.; mother, Grace Graziano Burton; loving wife of 48 years, Delores Boehm Burton; brother, Edward R. Burton, Jr.; and sisters, Evelyn Burton White, Helen Burton Core, and Marlene Burton Gobin.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, 2000 N. Morrison Boulevard, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Saturday, August 29, 2026 beginning at 10:00 AM until the funeral service begins at 1:00 PM.

Interment will follow in Rose Memorial Park Cemetery, Hammond, Louisiana.
