Rev. Gerald Wayne Burton

Rev. Gerald Wayne Burton, of Holden, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the age of 79. He was born on September 7, 1945, in Mobile, Alabama, the son of the late Adrian Lawrence Burton and Edna Lucille Chain Burton.

 Gerald was the steady rock of so many. He was a dad, a husband, a paw-paw, a pastor and a friend that would unselfishly do anything for others. To know him was to feel welcomed, close, and deeply loved. He was a man of strength, kindness, and unwavering dedication. His humor and love to laugh was at the forefront of every interaction and if you really wanted his attention, all you had to do was offer him a cup of coffee and he was all yours!

 Gerald’s impact stretched far beyond his family, touching the lives of friends, colleagues, and communities in ways that words will never fully express. There was not a day in his life that he wouldn’t take advantage of any moment possible to preach. He not only preached with passion, but he used his inner light to show Jesus to anyone he came in contact with.

 Gerald is survived by his wife of 46 years, Wendy Michelli Burton; son, Shawn Doucet and wife Leigh; grandchildren, Madison and Lawson Doucet, five other grandchildren, and a few great-grandchildren; brother, Rev. Billy Burton and wife Jan; numerous nieces and nephews; and his 5 fur babies, Shorty, Susie, Shaggy, Daisy and Patches. 

In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his 9 brothers and sisters, and his favorite fur baby - Jack. Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm with a Funeral Service at 1:00 pm, with his brother, Rev. Billy Burton officiating. 

Entombment will follow at James Chapel Cemetery in Holden, Louisiana.
