René Charles Petz, Jr., of Tickfaw, Louisiana, passed away at his home on Monday, January 4, 2021, at the age of 76. He was born on June 24, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of the late René Charles Petz, Sr. and Dorothy Doize Petz. René was raised in New Orleans East and graduated from P. A. Capdau Junior High School and John McDonogh Senior High School. He also attended Southeastern Louisiana University where he met the love of his life, Linda Monistere. René had a lifelong career in law enforcement starting in 1968 at Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. Over the years he also worked at Hammond Police Department, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office and the Civil Division, and St. Tammany Sheriff's Office as a Deputy and Court Bailiff. Through his work as a Deputy Sheriff, René inspired so many young people. He loved camping, fishing and spending his time outdoors. René was a fun-loving, humorous prankster who made friends everywhere he went. He loved children and had a special gift for soothing crying babies, and he was known as "Pappy" to his grandchildren and everyone else's grandchildren. René loved his family dearly and his quirky habits, unique singing and colorful jokes will be cherished memories for everyone that knew and loved him.
René is survived by his wife of 54 wonderful years, Linda Monistere Petz; children, René Charles Petz, III, Troy S. Petz (Jerry Gilbreath), Shannon L. Petz-Musacchia (Anthony, III), and Chantel Petz Hilbun; grandchildren, Landin M. Petz, Joseph R. Petz, Tiffani M. Bonaccorso, Austen K. Petz, Briona E. Bonaccorso, Dylan J. Hilbun, Hannah G. Musacchia, and Jude L. Musacchia; great grandson, Aydin M. Petz; sisters, Dorene Demma, Kathleen Petz, and Phyllis Terrell (Ray); puppies, Bambi and Coco, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, René was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Salvador and Gertrude Monistere.
Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Hammond on Saturday at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Mike Cuccia officiating.
