Renae Ray Briggs

Renae Estelle Ray Briggs passed from this life on September 2, 2024. She was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on September 10th, 1965. She married the love of her life, Scott, in July of 1983. She battled difficult and puzzling health problems for most of her life, yet her positive spirit prevailed. Scott was a devoted husband and a wonderful caregiver. He never left her side during her sickest days. They enjoyed each moment of their 41 years together.

Renae enjoyed traveling with her family in her earlier years but really got to travel the country when her husband started driving semi trucks. She would join him on his routes and they would travel across the country sometimes for several months at a time. Of all the sights they saw, she enjoyed the mountains and the snow the most. Being able to travel so much allowed her adventurous and free-spirited sides to flourish.

She may have been short in stature but she was certainly not short on spunk! She was always getting into mischief especially when partnered with her cousin, Glenda, who was more like a best friend. The pair liked to have great adventures which sometimes found them in light trouble. One time, her mom baked goodies for a church event but then Renae passed them out to neighborhood kids! She probably would have gotten into more trouble if it wasn’t for her older brother, Randy, or “Ran-Ran” as she called him.

Renae loved to laugh and reminisce of funny stories and happy memories. She had a huge heart–both for people and animals. Her family always lovingly said she “collected strays”. She would have had a house full of animals if she could, and she had a beautiful way of connecting with people who needed love and care. The more the merrier was definitely one of her mottos!

Renae will be remembered for her laugh, her joy for life, and her care for those she loved.

Renae is survived by her husband, Scott Briggs; brother, Randy Ray(wife, Lori Rogers Ray); niece and nephews, Stacie, Zachary, and Joshua Ray; and cousin and best friend, Glenda Scallan Collins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rodney Ross Ray and Shirley Diane Wilson Ray; daughter, Crystal Briggs; maternal grandparents, Elery Wilson and Annie Ruth Blackwell Wilson Fryer; and paternal grandparents, Ross and Arnetta Howard Ray.
