In Loving Memory of Randy Freeman

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Randy Freeman, a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. A longtime resident of Loranger, Louisiana, Randy passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the age of 71. He was a man of strength, adventure, and a joyful spirit, whose life touched many and whose legacy will endure.

Randy dedicated his career to the oilfield industry, working as a lift boat (jack-up) captain for Cross Marine and later Secor. He spent most of his life navigating the challenging waters of the oil industry, earning respect and admiration from colleagues and friends alike. During his time in the oilfield, Randy’s toughness and resilience earned him the nickname "Rambo," a testament to his fearless spirit and ability to handle any challenge thrown his way. After retiring from that demanding profession, Randy discovered a new passion working alongside his son as a pyrotechnician assistant-eventually taking to the skies himself to create spectacular fireworks displays. His dedication to safety and excellence was evident, earning him a CDL with a hazmat endorsement to help lighten the load on his son’s shoulders.

Randy was born in Alaska before it was officially a state-a fact he often proudly bragged about. He was always the goofy, fun-loving one among his siblings, known for his playful humor and infectious laughter. His lighter side was forever captured in his first and only tattoo, a portrait of Goofy, the beloved Disney character, which he proudly displayed as a symbol of his fun-loving personality.

A lifelong Saints fan, Randy never missed a game and cheered passionately for his team. His home was marked by a portrait of John Wayne, reflecting his love for Western movies and the rugged, adventurous spirit they embodied.

Randy’s warmth, humor, and adventurous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He loved his family fiercely and embraced life with a fearless, joyful heart.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, George Thomas Freeman Sr. and Mary Louise Stephenson Freeman; son, Randy George Freeman; brother, Barry Freeman.

Randy is survived by his children, Chad Freeman, Rita Carpenter (Barry), and Renade Bergeron; grandchildren, Heath Freeman, Kayla McGuffee (Ben), Barry Carpenter Jr. (Krystal), Mallorie-Paige Coleman (Keaton), Jon-Luke Carpenter, David LeBlanc, Jennifer Cousins, and Shirley Riviere (Eric); great grandchildren, Ethan, Kyle, and Chloe McGuffee; siblings, George Thomas Freeman Jr., Susan Darlene Freeman McMillan, Steven Leon "Buster" Freeman, and Dorothy Louise Freeman-Vigus; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to gather and remember the man who meant so much to all of us at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm with a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 pm.
