Rae Toney McKenzie, a lifelong resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at the age of 89. She was born on April 9, 1932, the daughter of the late Warren Wirley Toney and Nina Lee Toney. Rae was the owner of D and R drive-in restaurant in Ponchatoula for 35 years. She was well known for her cooking skills and proudly won first place at the Strawberry Festival for her famous "Strawberry Delight." Rae was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula where she was the Sunday School Director and also worked in the kitchen where she earned the nickname "The Tea Lady." Her greatest love was her family and she cherished all the moments they shared, especially family trips in the Good Times Van.
Rae is survived by her daughters, Glenda Meissner Brown and Dian Meissner Dinser (Jim); grandchildren, Michael Lenard (Donna), Karla Pope M.D., and Tiffany Hanna Waddell (Buster); great grandchildren, Brittany Blount, Scotty Lenard, Kristen Payne (Tyler), Hunter Lenard, Heather Lenard, Rebekah Bass, and Starlah Lenard; great great granddaughter, McKenzie Lenard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Rae was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Roy J. McKenzie; grandchildren, Kim Polk and Russell Lenard; and sisters, Delores Perrin, Louise Perrin and Ruth Hernandez.

A Graveside Service will be held at Ponchatoula Cemetery, Highway 22 @ I-55, Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Jimmy Wall officiating.
