Rae Catherine Conerly Murphywas born on Saturday July 9, 1949 in New Orleans, Louisiana and died onDecember 8, 2018 in Amite, Louisiana. She was the first child of Rayfordand Catherine Dees Conerly.
Rae Catherine, as she liked to be called, was married to Earl Murphy on June14, 1969. She had two sons and five grandsons. She is survived byher husband of 49 years and 6 months, her son Stuart, and grandsons Will,Braydon, Blake, Coner, and Cullen Murphy, a sister, Judy Conerly and a nephew,Rayford Conerly.
Rae Catherine was preceded in death by her father, Rayford Conerly, her mother,Catherine Dees Conerly, and son, Patrick Conerly Murphy.
She was a graduate of Lafayette High School and L.S.U. She worked as aspecial education teacher and librarian at the Tangipahoa Parish Library branchin Amite, Louisiana.
Rae Catherine loved reading, singing in the church choir, and playing handbells. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elk City,Oklahoma. Most of Raeâs life was spent in Amite, Louisiana. Afterher father died, she moved with her mother and sister to Lafayette, Louisianawhere she met Earl Murphy on a blind date and married him 18 monthslater. She then followed her husband to Baton Rouge where they bothattended L.S.U. After graduation from L.S.U., they moved to Amite,Louisiana where Rae Catherine raised her sons. After her sons were grown,she travelled the country and Mexico with her husband who worked as an engineerfor the oil industry.
Rae Catherine was a devout Christian but wanted a simple party when shedied. She had discussed final wishes with her husband after the death oftheir son and said that she wanted a party with music by Elvis Presley.
There will be a celebration of Rae Catherineâs life Saturday December 15, 2018at Boot Hill Restaurant at 210 W. Oak St., in Amite, Louisiana from 12:00 noonuntil 3:00 p.m. All her friends and acquaintances are welcome.
