Peggy Spears Wittenborn

Peggy Spears Wittenborn was born June 26, 1939, in Ontario, California, to the late Leonard Ivan Spears and Hattie Goldie Kinslow Spears, and passed away May 3, 2022, in Hammond, Louisiana. She was raised on a horse ranch in the southern California town of Sage where her chores included exercising quarter horses. Often times as a child, she dressed as a boy to be a jockey in horse racing because at the time it was against the law for girls to be a jockey. Peggy loved animals and tending her flower gardens. She was a member of Oak Grove Church of God in Loranger. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Larry Byron Wittenborn; son, Otto Christian Wittenborn (Damaris); daughter, Cheryl Lynn Eslinger (Bill); brother, Gilbert Ivan Spears; half brother, Theodore Spears; two half sisters, Terri Burns and K.L. Durham; grandchildren, Eric, Jon, Corey and Jacob Adams, and Jesse Grant Wittenborn; three great grandsons and three great grandaughters. In addition to her parents, Peggy is preceded in death by her sister, Martha Pierson. Visitation will be Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Oak Grove Church of God in Loranger, from 9:00 am until religious services at 11:00 am conducted by Brother Rod Smith. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
