Patricia Diane Charbonnet Schmit

Patricia Diane Charbonnet Schmit, was born August 3, 1953, in Hammond, LA to the late Edgar Albert Charbonnet, Sr. and Gladys Marie Bourgeois Charbonnet. She passed away March 7, 2022, at North Oaks Hospital in Hammond surrounded by her loved ones. Patricia was a resident of Ponchatoula and a former resident of Baton Rouge. She was a 1971 graduate of Ponchatoula High School, and received her bachelor's degree in education from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1974. Patricia was a longtime educator having taught at St. Alphonsus Catholic School in Baton Rouge and Holy Ghost School in Hammond. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Ronald A. Schmit; two daughters, Dawn Upshaw, and Robin Gumpert (Jeffrey); brother, Edgar Charbonnet, Jr.; three sisters, Phyllis Beyl (John), Peggy Hoover (Edwin) and Carolyn Pinion; grandchildren, Cooper, Paige, and Reagan Upshaw, and Liam and Lilly Gumpert; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Patricia is preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Leroy Pinion; sister-in-law, Carolyn Dominguez Charbonnet; and a great niece, Ashlyn Bravata. Visitation will be Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 West Magnolia Street, Ponchatoula from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 255 North Eight Street, Ponchatoula at 11:00 am celebrated by Father Paul McDuffie. Entombment will follow in Rosaryville Mausoleum, Rosaryville, Louisiana.
