Norma Ruth Welch Guthrie

Norma Ruth Welch Guthrie was born August 14, 1932, in Cleveland, TX to the late Alphonse Lafayette Welch and Ruby Garland Johnson Welch.  She passed away in Baton Rouge, LA, December 11, 2022, at age 90.  She taught pre-school for over 20 years.  Her family came first. Norma was a resident of Springfield and a member of Stevendale Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. She enjoyed flower gardening, working in her yard, and being outside. In her final years she enjoyed sitting outside in her rocking chair. She is survived by her children, Joe Clements Guthrie, Jr., PhD, John Calvin Guthrie, Samuel Timothy Guthrie, Marc Alan Guthrie, and Melanie Denise Guthrie Nutter; brother, Jim Welch; grandchildren, J. Casey Guthrie, M.D., Keith Guthrie, Sarah Murdock, Stefanie Lombardo, Stephen Guthrie, Nicholas Nutter, Katie Guthrie, and Emilie Nutter; and 7 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Joe Clements Guthrie, Sr.; brother, Bill Welch; and a grandson, Jared Cory Guthrie. A Visitation will be at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Boulevard, Hammond, LA, Thursday, December 15, 2022, after 12:45 p.m. until funeral services at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel conducted by her grandson, J. Casey Guthrie, M.D. Interment will follow in Spring Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Kentwood, LA.
