Nettie Irene Hutchinson Blackwell

Nettie Irene Hutchinson Blackwell, age 85, peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at The Lodge at Tangi Pines in Amite, Louisiana. She was born on July 23, 1940, in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, to the late Peter and Irene Hutchinson. She was a devout Christian woman who loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Nettie met and married the love of her life, Harold "Joe" Blackwell, Sr. where they raised a beautiful family together, and were married for 48 wonderful years. She would lovingly prepare delicious meals for her big family, especially her famous roast, rice and gravy, where many memories were made. Nettie enjoyed listening to her bluegrass, gospel and country music. Above all else, she loved her family, her children and grandchildren were her world.  She will live on in the stories, that the family will cherish forever.

She is survived by her children, Rhonda Cowart (Harvey), Jennifer Cunningham (Don), Harold "Joey" Blackwell, Gerald Blackwell (Krista), Brandon Blackwell (Brandy); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; as well as her brother, Rev. Peter Hutchinson (Marie).

Preceding her in death were her husband, Harold "Joe" Blackwell Sr.; parents, Peter Sr. and Irene Hutchinson; grandsons, Justis Cowart, Justin Cowart, Ben Blackwell, and Ray Lexia; as well as her brothers, Dr. Delmas Hutchinson and Marvin Hutchinson (Sally).

Family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m.. Rev. Johnnie Stewart and Rev. Matthew Blackwell will be officiating the services with burial to follow in Hutchinson Cemetery in Albany, Louisiana.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Blackwell, Zach Blackwell, Braden Blackwell, Blake Adams, Laremy Cowart, and Jacob Purvis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be given to any charity or church of your choice.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of The Lodge at Tangi Pines and Modern Hospice for their wonderful care of "Mama Nettie".
