Myrtle Rownd Durand peacefully departed her loving family on Friday, March 12, 2021 in Hammond, LA at the age of 100. She was born on January 26, 1921 to Leslie Eugene and Sallie Sibley Rownd in Springfield, LA.
Myrtle was one of Hammond Police Department's first female officers, and served from 1958 to 1978. She retired after 20 years and devoted her life to raising her children, as well as on of her granddaughters. She enjoyed cooking for her family and planting flower gardens.
Myrtle is survived by her children: Ray Allen Durand, Jr., Linda Breaux, Debbie & Larry Jones; her grandchildren: Sherry & Mark Myers, Richard Breaux, Joel & Amy Jones, Brandon & Amber Jones, and her great grandchildren: Devin Breaux James, Braxton Sharp, Kaleigh Jones, Breanna Sharp, Brayden Sharp, Rayna Myers, Kenzie Jones, Brody Jones and Bailey Jones. She was also blessed with great, great grandchildren: Jordyn Sophia, Dahviene, and Jayden.
She is predeceased by her husband, Ray A. Durand; mother, Sallie Sibley Rownd; brother, Lionel Eugene Rownd; sister, Georgie Henkel; granddaughter, Dawn Jones Sharp; great grandchildren Tyrin & Connor Myers and Kamryn Jones.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Hammond, 2000 N Morrison Boulevard, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The visitation will continue at the funeral home the following day, Wednesday, March 17, 2021, beginning at 9:00 AM until the funeral service begins at 11:00 AM.
Interment will follow in Holly Gardens Cemetery, Hammond, Louisiana.
