Myrna Polk

Myrna Kathlyn Leader Polk, beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother passed away on July 19, 2022 at her home in Whitehall, Louisiana at the age of 85 after a strong battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.  She is survived by her three daughters, Wanda Halker (Johnny), Kimberly Bourgeois, and Andre’ Pinion (Keith); 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brother, Wayne (Diane) and Bornie (Telvina) Leader; and step-daughter, Kathy Oncale (Blaine).  She is preceded in death by her husband, Wade L. Polk Sr.; parents, Florin and Amy Leader; brothers, Fernel and LeClare (PeeWee) Leader; Nanny, Eldit Leader; and stepson, Wade L. Polk Jr.

Myrna grew up in Whitehall, Louisiana where she resided for many years.  Later in her adult life Myrna moved to Isabel, Louisiana with her husband, Wade.  For 40 years they shared their life between their two hometowns.  Mryna always loved to do work with her hands.  She had a great love for sewing and creating things.  As a young mother she sewed all her daughters’ clothes and made doll clothes for her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed scrapbooking and upcycling used greeting cards and gift wrap to create special mementos.  Myrna also had a strong passion for reading and writing stories and poetry.  Over the years, she filled many journals with stories of her own life, beautiful poetry and fictional stories.  Myrna made a career of her sewing by working as a seamstress at The Pants Factory and BB Bennet, and later as a supervisor at Neese Industries, where she retired.  After her retirement, she took permanent residence in Isabel and volunteered many years and hours of her time to the Habitat for Humanity.  Later in 2021, she was brought home to her “little house” in Whitehall, where her loved ones cared for her.  Myrna had a generous heart, found joy in handmade things, and had a profound love for her family.  She was a hardworking and incredibly strong woman who will be missed by many.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Canon Hospice for their loving care and compassion they provided to Mrs. Myrna and her family during her final days.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, from 9:00-11:00 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 22502 LA-22, Maurepas, LA 70449.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated beginning at 11:00.  Interment will follow at Whitehall Cemetery.
