Murray Jean Wannamaker Francis

Murray Jean Wannamaker Francis, 86, passed away on March 20, 2024.  She passed away peacefully in St. Louis, MO surrounded by family.

Interment will be held in Green Lawn Cemetery, Hammond, at 11 a.m. on March 28th with Holy Ghost Catholic Church officiating, under the direction of Harry McKneely and Son.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John Emile Francis, her parents Ruby Lucille Randall and James Emerson Wannamaker, her daughters, Catherine Angela Francis and Patricia Francis Sabala; and her son Kevin Christopher Francis.

Murray Jean was born and raised in Hammond, Louisiana where she attended the Lab School at Southeastern and graduated as valedictorian from Hammond High School.  She completed her Bachelor of Music Education in Piano and Voice at Northwestern State University.  She started teaching at Brame Junior High in Alexandria where she was the vocal music director as well as teaching music at Oak Park Elementary and Junior High Schools in Lake Charles.  Murray Jean also earned her Master of Education in Counseling and Guidance from McNeese State University. Her last position was as the Educational Diagnostician for Special School District at Central State Hospital.  She also completed her Specialist Degree in Assessment during that period.  

Murray Jean leaves behind a daughter Judith Francis Cooley, son-in-law Leonard Spencer Cooley, Jr. and grandson Trey; daughter-in-law Bunny Snow Francis and granddaughter Josie Snow Francis; son-in-law John Sabala, granddaughters Amanda Sabala and Kristina Sabala Juneau, and her husband Brad Juneau, great-granddaughter Abigail Rose Juneau and great- grandson Noland Joseph Juneau. She also leaves behind a brother-in-law, Joseph Theodore Francis, Jr. and his wife Rose Francis; one sister-in-law Mary Ann Francis Becnel and her husband Dr. Harry P. Becnel, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
