Muriel E. Bonnette

Muriel E. Bonnette peacefully entered into rest on Saturday, September 2, 2023, surrounded by her family at the young age of 90.  She was born on June 2, 1933, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Emile Hammel Sr. and Marie Legendre Hammel.  She was a talented crafter of anything she could get her hands on, whether it was crocheting, gardening, ceramics, even making tiny furniture from acorns in the yard. There was no limitation to her imagination.  Her grandkids called her "Nature Grandma" due to the fact she loved exploring the outdoors and always took the grandkids with her on her hiking adventures, and never missed an opportunity to start a fire in the yard.  She was "Grandma" to all who met her and would share her comforting grandmotherly love in any form or fashion with anyone who needed it and always knew just what to say.  Her empathy knew no bounds, making her beloved by friends and family alike.  When Muriel was not outside piddling or burning something, she could often be found reading her mystery novels or staying up late to watch old movies.  She leaves behind a legacy of memories, stories, and family to keep the legend of "Nature Grandma" alive.  Muriel had a strong, feisty, heart of gold personality that will be missed deeply.  

She leaves behind her children, Diane B. Muscat and husband George, Kim B. Pomes and fiance Rodney Williams, Leslie M. Rasic and husband Alan; adoring grandchildren, Vincent Amato and wife Tonya Wise, Darrel Amato and wife Cynthia, Jeremiah Amato, Adam Amato and girlfriend Cherie Berteau, Meghan Pomes, Katie Coco and husband Thad, Hailey Pomes, Alden Rasic, Elizabeth Rasic, Amanda Clark and husband Tom, Greg Muscat and Stefani Muscat; beautiful great-grandchildren, Nathan Amato and fiancé Shanna Freeman, Cayden Amato, Terry Lavine III, Jayden Lavine, Titus Lavine, Isaiah Lavine, Zoe Lavine, Roman Pomes, Phoenix Coco, Ember Coco, Elizabeth Clark, Sophia Clark, Everly Clark, Constance Clark, Gavin Muscat, Jace Adams, Paisley Berteau; as well as a great-great-granddaughter, Abigail Abadie.

Muriel was preceded in death by her husband, Rogers J. Bonnette Sr.; son, Rogers J. "Butch" Bonnette Jr.; sons-in-law, Leroy A. Amato and Thomas Pomes; siblings, Emile Hammel Jr., Eugene Hammel, and Alice Savana; along with her parents.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service on Wednesday, September 6th, 2023, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m.  A rosary will be held at 10:45 a.m. 

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Linda, RN and Jeri, CNA with Passages Hospice and Staff of Ponchatoula Community Care Center for their loving care and compassion shown to her and the family during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association or American Cancer Society in Mrs. Muriel's Honor.
