Milton Joseph Vicknair passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 30, 2021, surrounded by his family and loved ones at his residence in Independence, Louisiana at the age of 75. Â Milton was born on Thursday, October 24, 1946 to the late Rowina Delatte Vicknair and Alex âLouisâ Vicknair. Â He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Jouett. Â He is a Plank Owner of the vessel and received recognition as a Golden Shellback. Â Later he became a member in the U.S.S. Jouett Association. Â He carried the knowledge of this experience to New Orleans Millwright Local #131 before retiring.
Milton never met a stranger, he loved spending time with his family and friends, and his joyful spirit was contagious. Â He was devoted to his community and church; serving as a member of the Knights of Columbus Mater Dolorosa Council 5627 and the Marian Servants of the Visitation Community. Â Miltonâs Catholic faith has been a guiding light causing him to share his beliefs, his love for life, and his love for our Lord. Â He is best known for having pockets overflowing with peppermint candy, giving warm hugs, and having good humor.
Milton is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marie LamonicaVicknair; daughters, Michelle McAlister (Daniel) and Marla Ollié (Billy); grandsons, Kelly McAlister and William Ollié; granddaughters at heart, Lauren Gail Simmons (Wesley) and Jaedyn Lamonica; sister at heart, Ginger Bauers (Mike); aunt, Leola Hernandez; nephew, Robbie Vicknair (Angie); Charles Oliver (Jessica) and Jody Oliver; nieces, Darliss Mendel, Debbie Medlock and Alicia Owens (Terry); Goddaughter, Stephanie Carpenter; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Evans; brother, Robert "Bobby" Vicknair; niece, Barbara Mason; nephews, Mark Oliver and Elton Lewis; and brother-in-law, Henry Lamonica.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Hammond, 2000 N Morrison Boulevard, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Immediately following the visitation, a funeral mass will be held at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 620 3rd Street, Independence, Louisiana 70443, at 12:00 PM.
Interment will follow in Colonial Cemetery, Independence, Louisiana.
