Michael Ray Poche

Michael Ray Poche, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024,  at North Oaks Medical Center due to complications of MDS, at the age of 62.

He was preceded in death by his father Ray A. Poche and brother Christopher Poche, and is survived by his longtime spouse Bill Haydel of Hammond, his mother Barbara Poche, sister Cathy and her husband C.J. Martin of Maurepas. sister Laurie and her husband Chris Wesley of Smithdale, MS. Nieces Courtney, Haley, Krusty and nephew Bradley. And ‘spirit’ mothers Lucy Poche Comish of Springfield and Linda Torstenson of Ponchatoula.

Michael was raised on his family's farm in Maurepas, LA, graduating Maurepas High School. Later he joined the Peace Corps and moved to Long Beach, CA, where he managed a restaurant and met Carla. They married and moved back to Louisiana before retiring. They divorced but remained loving friends. He met Bill in 2002, and although only able to legally marry in 2016, they still spent 22 very happy years together.

Everybody that  knew Michael really liked him. He was a humble man, very kind and hard working. Always eager just to be included. He had a pure soul, free from ego, selfishness, greed or hatred, none of the toxic traits that can infect the human heart. He would never take advantage of, or hurt  someone intentionally. After everything he’d been through he was still such a loving person; He always had a positive outlook, and faced life with a sense of wonder and enthusiasm.
