Michael Anthony "Micho NQ" Andrew

Michael Anthony Andrew aka Micho NQ was born in Newtown, Dominica on September 22, 1956 to the late Hayden Andrew and Clemance Jno Baptiste Andrew.  He was a pioneer in popularizing African drumming in the Eastern Caribbean. As a native of Giraudel in Dominica, he was part of the bountiful farming community as a Rastafarian and played a major role in the developing the culture. He was a gifted Artist and Musician and who formed the Roots and Branches Band in Hammond, LA. He performed in multiple venues on Frenchmen Street in New Orleans, LA. He was an inspiration and shared his words of wisdom and empowerment with many in the community. His powerful presence will be missed by all who experience his special exuberance.  He leaves behind an abundance of memories to be cherished by his devoted  wife, Valencia Warner Andrew; three sons: Michael V. Andrew, Jahba Andrew, and Mandela Andrew; adopted son: Rashide Charles; five daughters: Valia M. Andrew, Ayodele Andrew, Nisa Andrew, Ashah Andrew, and Imanuelle Andrew;  one daughter-in-law:  Markeita Warner Caldwell (Nathaniel);  one brother: Wilfred “Shoosh” Andrew; one sister: Nidy Andrew; one sister-in-law: Cynthia Wells; one brother-in-law:  Henry Lee Mimms, Jr. (Jennie); Fourteen grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, countrymen and friends; dedicated friends: Joan Joseph, Jerry and Fran Kraus, and Joe Costa. The funeral service will be held at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Homes, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, LA 70401 on May 12, 2023. Visitation begins at 9 AM and ends 11 AM with service to follow.  Following funeral services, a reception will be held at Michabelle Inn, 1106 S. Holly Street, Hammond, LA  70403
